Passage to Freedom: The Sugihara Story, written by Ken Mochizuki and illustrated by Dom Lee, is a children’s picture book that recounts the courageous actions of Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese consul in Lithuania during the 1940s  The story is told from the perspective of five-year-old Hiroki Sugihara, who witnessed his father’s moral dilemma and the family’s decision to help Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi persecution  Despite repeated denials from the Japanese government, Sugihara issued thousands of visas, saving over 10,000 lives
